Sunday vs Monday start calendar

Which day a week begins is a one-click setting that changes the whole shape of the grid. There is no wrong answer — only the convention you and your printer of the calendar expect.

The Week starts on control with Sunday and Monday options

Pick your week start

  1. Open the Layout tab.
  2. Under Page setup, set Week starts on to Sunday or Monday.
  3. The preview, the printout and every downloaded file follow immediately.

How to choose

  • Sunday-start is the norm in the United States, Canada and other regions where the week opens with the weekend. Sunday sits first and the weekend bookends each row, with Saturday closing it on the right.
  • Monday-start is the norm in Europe, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia and most ISO-week regions. The week runs Monday to Sunday, so the weekend appears as one block on the right — which pairs naturally with week numbers and shaded-weekend designs.

What changes besides the columns

The calendar's math follows the setting: weekly and family layouts start their page on the chosen day, and week numbering (when shown) aligns with it. Month and year navigation behave the same either way.

Tips

  • Printing for an office that plans in ISO weeks? Monday start, plus Show week numbers.
  • Sharing calendars between the US and Europe? Generate both variants — everything else stays identical.
